Lower back pain gone says Portland Metro firefighter

For the past 4 years I have been a firefighter in the Portland Metro area. On December 25th of 2005 I sustained a back injury while responding to an emergency call. My injury prevented me from working in my normal capacity for the next four months.

During my time off from regular duty I attempted several types of treatment for my lower back injury and none of them seemed to work. They were all designed to focus on just my injury. My treating physician said that I not only needed to rebuild my injury but strengthen the rest of my body as well. After some research and speaking with my fire department's Wellness Coordinator I sought treatment at ADAPT.

ADAPT was different. They were not only interested in treating my injury but had an overall plan to bring balance back to my body. I was given a full evaluation that looked at my body’s function as a whole. The results were then explained to me along with the plan for treatment.

My previous physical therapy treatments were just pulled off of worksheets. ADAPT made a custom program and then modified and changed it as I progressed. The program was always explained in detail and the therapist made sure that I understood all of the exercises.

Before receiving treatment at ADAPT I wondered if I would ever get back to work. After 8 weeks at ADAPT I was able to return to full duty as a firefighter. Within a week of returning to work I was on the first due engine at a two alarm apartment fire. After two and half hours of hard work my back was pain free.

The ADAPT program went beyond my expectations in both treatment and results. I received excellent support and care from the staff. I would not hesitate recommending ADAPT to anyone.
